Justice John Rooke: Judge, Associate Chief Justice, Alberta Queen’s Bench

AssociateChiefJusticeRookeJustice John Rooke received a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Saskatchewan. He articled and became partner at Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer in Calgary until 1991. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1987. Justice Rooke was appointed to the Court of Queen’s bench in Alberta in 1991, and was then appointed a Deputy Justice of the Supreme Court of the Northwest Territories in February, 2007. Justice Rooke was an Accredited Arbitrator with the Alberta Arbitration and Mediation Society, and a Chartered Arbitrator at the Arbitration and Mediation Institute of Canada. He was also awarded a Master of Laws in Dispute Resolution from the University of Alberta in 2010. Since his appointment to the Court of Queen’s Bench in 1991, Justice Rooke has been actively involved in all aspects of the judiciary, including the Queen’s Bench Continuing Legal Education Committee, Computer Committee, Rules of Court Committee, Civil Practice and Procedure Committee, Long Range Planning Committee and an ad hoc committee which authored the report entitled “Vision 2000 Plus: The Court of Queen’s Bench Commencing the 21st Century.”
