This week Julie talks to Professor Paula Gerber about the marriage equality referendum in Australia last year, the ugly forces unleashed by the referendum, and its aftermath, as well as what challenges continue for ensuring LGBTQI rights in Australia. Paula is Professor of Law at Monash University in Melbourne, where she leads the Human Rights Centre. She is also a well-known and committed LGBTQI activist. In other news: NSRLP has been granted $100K by the LFO to work with local public libraries; in Australia, two SRLs successfully used the Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities to argue that their rights had been violated by the court’s handling of their case; and watch for upcoming NSRLP reports on our 2017 SRL Intake Form, and on our SRL Case Law Database.
