CALLING ALL LITIGANTS REPRESENTING THEMSELVES WITHOUT A LAWYER
More than half of those coming to Family Court in Windsor now are without a lawyer, primarily for financial reasons. In response to this, the University of Windsor, Faculty of Law has created a course in legal coaching to assist self-represented litigants in the Windsor family court. If your matter is not a family law matter, please feel free to apply. Law students will be matched with litigants – one-on-one – to offer “coaching”.
Our law students will not be able to provide legal advice, but they can:
- Help you review your case and identify your needs and priorities
- Help you to prepare for a mediation session (and possibly accompany you)
- Work with you to prepare for a case management or settlement conference (and possibly accompany you)
- Answer questions about procedure (subject to the knowledge of the individual student)
- Review your forms with you (subject to the knowledge of the individual student)
- Provide overall support as you work through this often stressful and difficult process on your own.
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN WORKING WITH A “COACH” between September and November 2018, we would love to hear from you.
Please contact the National Self-Represented Litigants Project (NSRLP) via email: representingyourself@gmail.com.
Please note that your case will be treated in strictest confidentiality.
