We are proud of our efforts to promote Access to Justice for SRLs this past year, including the 2nd Dialogue Event, the continued expansion of the SRL Case Law Database and the publication of four detailed research reports, work on upgrading our ten current SRL Primers, a new research report on Access to Transcripts across Canada, our 2017 SRL Intake Report detailing the results of our continued efforts to track the demographics of the SRL phenomenon, Dayna Cornwall’s project with local public libraries, “Family Law in the Library”, as well as many blogs and podcasts on A2J topics. In addition, we continue to receive and respond to more and more enquiries from SRLs all over Canada and many other countries as well, and to facilitate the input of SRL voices into policy discussions, the testing of new resources, and other research.
During 2018, the NSRLP has benefited from the support of funders including the Law Foundation of Ontario, Windsor Law, the Law Foundation of British Columbia, CanLII, the Law Foundation of Alberta, the Legal Research Foundation, and the Canadian Bar Association Futures Fund, as well as private donors. While we appreciate each and every dollar we receive, the needs of the very large numbers of Canadians without legal representation, and the systemic issues of fairness and justice these raise, significantly outpace our capacity, despite the incredible commitment and hard work of our professional staff, our student research assistants, and our wonderful Advisory Board. Given this, we would like to make a special pitch for you to consider making a charitable donation (you will receive a tax receipt) to the NSRLP. Rest assured that every dollar you contribute will stretch as far as possible in allowing us to continue our efforts to understand and address the needs of SRLs and the A2J crisis. We have great plans for 2019, and would love your help in getting to our next year in review!
