Calgary Legal Guidance

Calgary Legal Guidance exists to provide legal assistance and information to disadvantaged persons who would not otherwise have access to such services. http://www.clg.ab.ca

Calgary Legal Guidance provides legal information and advice to low-income people who cannot afford a lawyer and don’t qualify for Legal Aid. They can help with a wide range of issues including but not limited to:

  • Family issues such as separation/divorce, custody and access, and child support;
  • Criminal issues such as theft, mischief, fraud, and non-domestic assault;
  • Civil issues such as small claims, debt, landlord/tenant, and employment issues;
  • Orders of protection such as restraining orders;
  • Getting identification documents if you have lost them; and
  • Social benefit issues such as Alberta Works, AISH, Employment Insurance benefits, and Canada Pension Plan benefits.

Programs

Dial-A-Law: The topics in the Dial-A-Law series provide general information on a wide variety of legal issues in the Province of Alberta.   This service is provided by Calgary Legal Guidance with funding in part from the Alberta Law Foundation. http://clg.ab.ca/dial-a-law/

Domestic Violence: The Family Law Program program provides legal information and assistance for adult victims of domestic violence. http://clg.ab.ca/services/family-law-program/

Homeless Outreach Program: The Homeless Outreach Program (HOP) serves individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness with legal issues. http://clg.ab.ca/services/homeless-outreach-program/

Legal Clinics: Calgary Legal Guidance offers free and confidential legal advice at evening clinics and outreach clinics to low income Calgarians who do not qualify for Legal Aid. http://clg.ab.ca/services/legal-clinics/

Legal Education: Calgary Legal Guidance runs many workshops and presentations in the community on a variety of legal topics http://clg.ab.ca/services/legal-education/

Social Assistance Guidance: The Social Benefits Advocacy Program (SBAP) provides legal advice, assistance, representation, information, community supports and referrals to individuals as they encounter and interact with social entitlement programs. http://clg.ab.ca/services/social-benefits-advocacy-program/
